PADS
(Providing Advocacy, Dignity, and Shelter)
The purpose of this ministry is to provide “shelter for tonight” as well as a safe and warm place to stay. The PADS program provides supportive services in the form of shelter, food and hygiene supplies and hospitality fo the homeless citizens of Lake County during the cold weather months of October through April. Each guest is provided with a nutritious dinner, breakfast and sack lunch.
Our site, at Messiah Lutheran Church which services only male guests, is staffed by volunteers working two - five hour shifts. Volunteers are also needed to do laundry or prepare and supply snack lunches. You can volunteer once a month (2-5 hours) for the seven months that we are open.
Anyone over 16 years of age is welcome to contact Carole Kaminsky (847-487-4880) to discuss the shift openings. It is suggested that you attend an orientation meeting prior to joining this ministry. Another option other than volunteering at the site is to consider helping prepare meals, planning fund-raisers or devoting time to PADS by assisting the staff or provide in kind donations –toiletries, pillows, blankets and many other items.
